commissioning a portrait
A drawn or painted portrait can take many forms and be produced with a great variety of media.
Richard Maude prefers to work alla prima – directly from the subject, or portrait model - and subsequently from drawings and photographic studies he makes at a short sitting. The amount of time the subject needs to be available depends on the kind of portrait proposed and agreed upon.
As it is important to ‘get to know’ the person email and telephone contact will talk through some basics and create an initial connection. From here, Richard’s working process, for instance for a 40 x 30 cm canvas, is to spend up to one hour with the portrait subject, making some notes, sketches and photographic studies. On some occasions he may need a second short session as a follow up.
The painting will then be completed in the studio and delivered within an agreed time. Contact the artist now for details of fees and availability.
