painting people
A painting can give pause to our lives, a place and time to ponder – it can distil a subject. Figurative and portrait painting is the telling of stories about people.
Paintings can tell stories of large, complex social and environmental processes that explore the human condition in both its hum-drum daily ordinariness or through life-changing events. A series of connected portraits can explore a community while a single portrait subject tells a subtle, implicit, personal story.
Richard Maude believes he has come full circle in his life-long engagement with contemporary visual art. His focus now, the current project, is to bring his diverse art interests and experiences together with his studio skills into one process and vision, focussing it through his painting and daily studio practice.
